The following presentation, prepared by Manuel Orozco, director of the Migration, Remittances and Development program of the Inter-American Dialogue, is part of the Prosperity and Progress in Intermediate Cities project. The initiative seeks to encourage socioeconomic inclusion in the municipalities of the department of San Marcos, Guatemala and the municipality of Amatitlán, Guatemala.
As part of the “environmental management” component of the Prosperity and Progress in Intermediate Cities project, these slides present the results of a survey conducted in three municipalities in the department of San Marcos, Guatemala: San Marcos, San Antonio Sacatepéquez, and San Pedro Sacatepéquez.

Lisa Viscidi, director of the Energy Program, gave a presentation to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Mexican energy policy under AMLO and its implications for US-Mexico energy trade.

“I was held at three concentration camps for more than one year; the key was to survive. Then I was expelled and I lived in exile for 10 years, barred from returning to the country. Enabling tools that motivate remittance recipients to access and use a variety of financial services needed to increase assets is key to wealth generation.
Migrants’ economic contributions can be successfully leveraged for development if policies consider them in relation to drivers of migration and development challenges.

The discussion addressed prospects for political reconciliation, the reestablishment of democracy and human rights, and the role of the international community.
