Inter-American Dialogue Announces Newly Appointed Fellows

Washington, DC – The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to announce the appointment of Antonia Urrejola and Luis A. Rivas as senior fellows who will contribute expertise in the areas of democratic governance, feminist foreign policy, as well as financial and economic inclusion. 

Antonia Urrejola is a Chilean lawyer with extensive experience in various legal fields, including international law, human rights, and constitutional law. She has dedicated much of her career to advancing human rights, working in international organizations, NGOs, and government entities. She has held positions as a researcher, lawyer, advisor, project coordinator, and ultimately Commissioner of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). Most recently, Urrejola served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile during the administration of President Gabriel Boric. She will collaborate with Rebecca Bill Chavez and the Office of the President on initiatives focused on strengthening democratic institutions, the Dialogue’s work on women and girls, as well as peace and security projects. 

Luis A. Rivas is a Principal at Varyag Consulting Group, a strategic advisory firm that assists business leaders worldwide on issues of security, advocacy, diplomacy, business strategy, and transactions. Previously, Rivas spent over 20 years in the banking industry, where he held leading executive positions, including Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President of Grupo Promerica, a Central American banking conglomerate with operations in eight countries in Latin America; and Chief Executive Officer of Banpro, the largest bank in Nicaragua. Rivas will work closely with Manuel Orozco, Director of the Migration, Remittances and Development Program at the Inter-American Dialogue, on financial inclusion projects as well as add to the Dialogue’s work on the intersection of economic development and governance.
