Roberta Jacobson served on the National Security Council under US President Joe Biden and oversaw the US southern border policy. Jacobson was the US ambassador to Mexico from 2016 to 2018. Jacobson previously served as US assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs from 2012 to 2016. A career civil servant, Jacobson has focused on Latin America for more than 20 years. From December 2010 until July 2011, she was principal deputy assistant secretary for Western Hemisphere affairs, with responsibility for regional political and economic issues, management and personnel, and regional security issues.

Prior posts and assignments include deputy assistant secretary for Canada, Mexico, and NAFTA; director of the Office of Mexican affairs; deputy chief of mission at the US embassy in Lima; director of the office of policy planning and coordination in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs; and coordinator for Cuban affairs. She was also a senior advisor at the Albright Stonebridge Group.

 

Jacobson joined the Dialogue as a Member in 2018.
