Guillermo Lasso is currently serving as President of the Republic of Ecuador after being elected in 2021. Prior to his election, he worked for more than 50 years in the public and private sectors.
Lasso is founder of Ecuador’s Creating Opportunities (CREO) Party, for which he was the presidential candidate during the Ecuadorian general election in 2013. From 1994 to 2012, he served as executive president of Banco de Guayaquil, and he has more than 42 years of experience working in the banking sector. Lasso has also served as governor of Ecuador’s Guayas province and minister of the economy.
Lasso has published two books: Cartas a mis Hijos, an autobiography, and Otro Ecuador es Posible, based on his experiences traveling throughout Ecuador. He is president of the Fundación Ecuador Libre, an Ecuadorian think tank that seeks to influence public policy based on principles of freedom and social solidarity. He is also the founder of Fundación del Barrio, an NGO aiming to improve the quality of life of the poorest Ecuadorians.
Lasso has an MBA from the Instituto de Desarrollo Empresarial (IDE) and an honorary degree from the Universidad de las Américas.
