Brian Butcher

Brian Butcher is a senior advisor for international government affairs in Shell’s Washington, DC office. In this role, he works on international policy issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa. Butcher has worked for Shell since 2012. His first role was as a team lead for Latin America regulatory issues in Houston.

Before Shell, Butcher had a full career in the US Army. He was an armored cavalry officer and foreign area officer. He served in cavalry and armor units in Germany, Korea, and Texas. Butcher then spent a great deal of time working on Latin America issues, including a tour in the Pentagon and as the US defense attaché in Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil.

Butcher was educated at the US Military Academy (West Point), the Universidad de Granada (Spain), Tulane University, and the US Army War College. Butcher is married, lives in Alexandria, Virginia, and has two grown sons.
