850 million people worldwide lack identification documents. Although a phenomenon that affects people regardless of age, it tends to have a disproportionate impact on children, especially during early childhood.

Within the framework of the Child Migration Working Group, which the Inter-American Dialogue has promoted since 2022, and to address this urgent and relevant issue, the Dialogue is hosting a webinar titled “Legal Identity, Nationality, and Name of Children on the Move in the Americas” on May 16 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM EDT.  This online event will feature a panel of regional experts who will address the issues of legal identity, nationality and, statelessness, with a special focus on children, as well as the challenges that lie ahead at the regional level. Human rights activist Maha Mamo will provide a testimony of her personal experience.

The webinar will also present the article “Visibilizing the Invisible: Advances, Challenges, and Recommendations to Guarantee the Legal Identity, Nationality, and Name of Children on the Move in the Americas” by Álvaro Botero, Juan Ignacio Mondelli, and Laura Vanessa Mora.
