Central America Forward: A Conversation with Emily Mendrala

RSVP Now

The Biden Administration has promoted initiatives in Central America to positively curb migration. It introduced the Strategy for Addressing the Root Causes of Migration in Central America, and then through Vice-President Harris paired said strategy with the Partnership for Central America as policy measures to address migration, prosperity, and the rule of law. The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to invite you to a conversation with Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the United States Department of State, Emily Mendrala, about Central America Forward, an initiative seeking to expand economic cooperation and investment in Central America that continues from these prior efforts. The Administration’s initiative proposes to introduce US government commitments to complement and support the investments from the private sector.

What are the key highlights of Central America Forward? In what ways does this initiative represent a continuity to the Partnership for Central America? How can we understand the impact of these initiatives? Can these initiatives improve economic opportunities that may mitigate migration?
