Laura Chinchilla, former president of Costa Rica, is the recipient of the 2020 Women Political Leaders (WPL) Trailblazer Award. This award is presented to incumbent and former presidents and prime ministers for breaking political glass ceilings and reaching the highest echelon of political leadership. The digital ceremony will take place on November 9-11, in Reykjavik, Iceland.
The WPL Awards "are prestigious recognitions to women political leaders and countries who have made strides toward a society where balance between women and men in politics is the reality. [They] celebrate the dedication of those who succeeded with their perseverance in changing the rules of the game." Other award recipients for 2020 include former President Mary Robinson (Ireland), former President Joyce Banda (Malawi), and current Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Norway).
President Laura Chinchilla is the current co-chair of the Inter-American Dialogue’s Board of Directors.
