In Memoriam: Roberto Baquerizo

The Inter-American Dialogue mourns the loss of Board member Roberto Baquerizo, who passed away on December 7, 2017 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Roberto became a Dialogue member in 1995 and joined the Board of Directors in 2014. He took on a leadership role with the Dialogue’s Development Committee, helping launch the annual Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala and its influential President’s Leadership Council.

Roberto served as governor of the Central Bank of Ecuador from 1992 to 1993, and he held several senior operational management positions in the automotive, housing, and agricultural industries. He was CEO of the Bonita Banana Company and served as a Board director of International Minerals Corporation and Ventura Gold Corp. Most recently, Roberto was president of Mission Hills Group and managing director of ProVentures in New York. Roberto earned a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University, a master’s degree in education from Antioch University, and a bachelor’s degree from Catholic University of America.
