Pablo Heidrich is an associate professor at Carleton University. An international political economist, Heidrich specializes in natural resources and development in Latin America, international trade policymaking in contexts of financial crises, and comparative regionalism between East Asia and Latin America. His main focus is the interplay between ideas, policies and practices in economic development, observing how international trade and investment flows influence income distribution and development opportunities in the Global South.

Heidrich has written recently on Canadian mining investments in Latin America, global trade governance, negotiations at the World Trade Organization, and international cooperation. Part of his current research is funded by Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council; previously, his work has been funded by International Development Research Centre, Ford Foundation, Marshall Foundation and Canadian International Development Agency. He has a number of recent and forthcoming peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters as well as a recently published, co-edited volume on resource nationalism in Latin America.

He has been a lecturer at the Department of Political Science and a research fellow at the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University.  Before that, he was a senior researcher on international trade and development at the North-South Institute and a researcher at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences in Argentina. He has a PhD in political economy and public policy from the University of Southern California, and an MPhil in international political economy from Tsukuba University in Japan.
