Maria Mercedes Ortiz

Maria Mercedes Ortiz is mayor of Salcedo, Dominican Republic. She graduated cum laude with a degree in law from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. Ortiz obtained a master’s degree in law, economics and public policy from the Instituto Universitario Ortega y Gasset of the Complutense University of Madrid and has just completed another master’s degree in public administration, in addition to several diplomas in political management. Prior to her position as mayor, she served as executive director of the National System of Symphonic Orchestras for Children and Youth. She held that position for about 3 years, and later assumed the responsibility of mayor.
