Eliseo Núñez is executive secretary and member of the Directorio Político de la Concertación Democrática Nicaragüense, also known as Monteverde. Núñez is a lawyer with 29 years of professional experience and 34 years of political experience.

He began his career as a political activist since 1988 against the first government of Daniel Ortega, was a legislator on two occasions, and was head of the opposition’s presidential campaign in 2012 for the Partido Liberal Independiente (PLI). In 2016, along with twenty-seven other legislators, he was expelled from the National Assembly of Nicaragua by the Ortega government and, since 2018, has been dedicated to providing support to civil society and independent political groups on issues of organization, person-to-person activism work, political training on issues of citizenship, and political analysis of Nicaraguan history.

In June 2021 he was forced to leave Nicaragua due to the threat of imprisonment by the Ortega-Murillo controlled government for being one of the most recognized voices of the opposition. Since then, he has been in Costa Rica where he has joined civil society groups working toward the restoration of democracy in Nicaragua.

In addition to his political career, he has been a lawyer for national firms specializing in public law and a professor of constitutional law at the Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnología de Nicaragua.

Núñez is a member of the Inter-American Dialogue’s Working Group on Politics and Mediation in Nicaragua and was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
