Arantza Alonso Berbotto is a senior analyst for Verisk Maplecroft’s global risk insights practice. Alonso contributes to the Americas team’s output by providing analysis of political, regulatory, economic and social developments in Mexico, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. She also works closely with Verisk Maplecroft’s consultancy, analytics, human rights and environmental teams on projects, products, and analysis relevant to international investors.
Prior to joining Verisk Maplecroft, Alonso was the deputy director of research and leader for the rule of law and public security team at Emerging Markets Political Risk Analysis (EMPRA), a Mexico City-based political risk consultancy. Alonso and her team delivered independent analysis of policy developments to their clients and helped them identify risks that might affect their operations across Mexico. Prior to EMPRA, she led Mexico’s team of business intelligence analysts at iCOVER Screening, a Paris-based background screening solutions company, where she managed and conducted in-depth due diligence investigations in the Americas, helping clients make investment decisions across the region. Alonso has also been an independent contractor for the international risk consultancies Eurasia Group and Control Risks.
Alonso holds an MSc in countering organized crime and terrorism from University College London and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the Autonomous Institute of Technology of Mexico.
