Called “an insider’s view of the biggest economic event of our era” by the Financial Times, World Bank Chief Economist Justin (Yifu) Lin’s new book describes how the modern Chinese economy has taken shape, tracing its development from pre-modern advancement, through a precipitous decline, and into a 30-year period of rapid growth. In addition to providing an overview of the book’s main findings, Lin also discussed the possiblity of acheiving high rates of economic growth elsewhere in the developing world. The Carnegie Endowment’s Moises Naim provided a very thoughtful critique of the book and of Lin’s prescription for Chinese economic growth over the next decade.
