The international order based on the United States’ engaged leadership seems to be ending. What will replace them remains unclear.
Juan Manuel Santos, former president of Colombia and Nobel laureate, has published a book titled Un mensaje optimista para un mundo en crisis, or "An optimistic message for a world in crisis."
In his book, Santos examines the last thirty years of Colombia, which has managed to rise up in the face of many challenges including war and poverty. Even in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis and current unrest, Santos argues why we should see the glass as half full and points to figures that showed the country's undeniable progress prior to the pandemic. The book also analyzes the 2016 peace agreement with the FARC signed by Santos during his time as president and includes a chapter on the current health crisis in Colombia.
Juan Manuel Santos is a Member of the Inter-American Dialogue.
