Job Description

The Inter-American Dialogue is recruiting a senior communications manager to direct the Dialogue’s internal and external communications. The incumbent will have 5-7 years of experience in communications. He / she will be a social entrepreneur with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. He / she will supervise development and external relations staff, create and execute the organization’s communications strategies, and serve as the key spokesperson and media contact. He / she will also be responsible for organizing events, producing the annual report, and managing website content. 

Communications Strategy (15%)

  • Work closely with the Dialogue’s president, leadership team, and senior advisor to create and execute an integrated strategic communications plan that combines traditional and digital channels both in the US and Latin America. 
  • Engages staff and leads efforts to cultivate new audiences, especially in Latin America.

Spokesperson and Media Contact (40%)

  • Serves as the organization’s spokesperson and primary media contact.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key national and international media, including TV and radio producers, editors, bloggers, and top-tier media. 
  • Supervises and helps with building a database of media contacts.
  • Maintains relationships with media outlets and seeks ways to increase awareness in Latin America. 

Digital Activities (30%)

  • Manages the development, distribution, and maintenance of print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, blogs, issue briefs and reports, fact sheets, and the organization’s website and social media presence.
  • Manages the organization’s website and vendor relationship, posts program content promptly to the website. 

Other Responsibilities (15%) 

  • Mentors and leads staff responsible for digital strategy and website management as well as art direction, design, and brand integrity.
  • Prepares and presents clear reports to the Dialogue’s leadership and Board of Directors, as required.
  • Answers to ad-hoc requests coming from the organization’s president. 
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and editing skills as well as have experience in public and foreign policy, media affairs, and market research and analysis. He / she will be highly organized, easy to work with, and demonstrate outstanding communications and writing skills as well as the ability to produce quality work while meeting deadlines.

This position requires 5-7 years of experience in communications, of which at least 3 are in a similar organization. A master’s degree, a strong interest in Latin America, proficiency in Spanish (Portuguese a plus), and experience working with WordPress and social media are a must. Experience working with databases (preferably Neon), webcasting technology, and / or living, working, and studying in Latin America is highly desirable.
