New Task Force: Regional Response Key to Addressing Migration in North & Central America

The World Refugee & Migration Council in partnership with the Center for US-Mexican Studies, El Colegio de México, the Migration Policy Institute, and the Inter-American Dialogue launch today the North and Central American Task Force on Migration, bringing together civil society, business leaders, academics and former policymakers to push for collective, regional responses to migrants and asylum seekers.

Inter-American Dialogue Launches Health Task Force

The Dialogue is pleased to announce the launch of its Inter-American Health Task Force, which will convene for its first virtual meeting on March 2. The purpose of this task force is to examine the Covid-19 response in the region and identify areas to improve inter-American cooperation and coordination in future health emergencies.

Venezuelan Oil Sector Faces Long Road to Recovery

After years of mismanagement and, more recently, crippling sanctions, Venezuela’s core economic engine–the oil sector–is in collapse. The condition of the country’s economy creates numerous challenges to recovering Venezuela’s oil sector, and it will take months or even years for substantial amounts of investment to flow in, concludes a new Inter-American Dialogue report by Lisa Viscidi and Nate Graham.

Washington, DC – On November 12th at a gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC, the Inter-American Dialogue will present awards to leaders from across the Americas. The Dialogue is pleased to honor Alejandro Ramírez, CEO of Cinépolis, with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Civic Engagement; Cirque du Soleil, with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Corporate Citizenship; and the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (FNC), with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Social Equity. Mia Amor Mottley, PM of Barbados, will deliver keynote remarks. Marta Lucía Ramírez, vice president of Colombia, and Wendy Kopp, CEO of Teach for All, will present the awards.

Inter-American Dialogue releases new report on Venezuela’s refugee and migration crisis  

On October 31, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program and its Venezuela Working Group in partnership with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) at the request of the World Refugee Council will release a new report that identifies critical gaps in the existing response to the forced displacement of millions of Venezuelans, and presents a plan for bold, coordinated action by the international community.

Daniel Servitje, Esperanza Cueto, and Richard Blanco to receive prestigious Inter-American Dialogue Award

On October 29th at a gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC, the Inter-American Dialogue will present awards to three leaders from across the Americas. The Dialogue is pleased to honor Daniel Servitje, CEO and President of Grupo Bimbo, with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Corporate Social Responsibility; Esperanza Cueto, founding president of ComunidadMujer and president of Fundación Colunga, with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Women’s Rights and Empowerment; and Richard Blanco, presidential inaugural poet, with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Outstanding Cultural Contributions.

Inter-American Dialogue Launches Venezuela Working Group

On September 17 and 18, 2018, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program launched its Venezuela Working Group, a task force of prominent hemispheric leaders committed to formulating and actively promoting policy responses to the crisis in Venezuela.
