Washington, DC – The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to announce the appointment of Álvaro Botero, Ángel Melguizo, and Michael Matera as senior fellows who will contribute expertise in three programmatic areas: Education; Asia and Latin America; and the Rule of Law.

Álvaro Botero, an adjunct professor at American University’s Washington College of Law and a senior research associate at the University of London’s Refugee Law Initiative (RLI), will work closely with Ariel Fiszbein, the Director of the Education Program, on the protection and integration of child migrants and refugees in the Americas.

Ángel Melguizo will join the Asia and Latin America Program directed by Margaret Myers. Melguizo, a freelance economist, regional advisor for UNESCO, and principal economist at Telecom Advisory Services, will work with Myers to examine trends in Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) across the Latin American and the Caribbean region.

Michael Matera, co-founder and managing partner of Global Outcomes LLC and former Director of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), will be working with the Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program on regional efforts to bolster democratic institutions, improve transparency, and address corruption.

“We are thrilled to welcome Álvaro, Ángel, and Michael to the Dialogue,” said Rebecca Bill Chavez, President & CEO and former fellow with the Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program. “Each brings a unique perspective and vast expertise to our organization.”

Over the course of their tenure, fellows will support the Dialogue by engaging in program research, organizing events, and publishing work in their area of expertise.
