Dr. Janot served as prosecutor general of Brazil from 2013 to September 2017, at which time he led major investigations on corruption that included the Lava Jato and Odebrecht cases.

Dr. Janot began his career as deputy chief Prosecutor at the Brazilian Federal District Prosecutor’s Office, where he served from 1984 to 1987. He became regional prosecutor in 1993 and senior federal prosecutor in 2003. Janot occupied several positions with the Prosecutor General’s office and has been a member of the seventh, third, and fifth Coordination and Revision Chambers.

He was also a professor of civil procedural law at the University of Brasilia until 1995 and secretary of economic law at Brazil’s Ministry of Justice from April to December 1994.

Dr. Janot was elected president of the National Association of the Federal Prosecutors and was three times over counselor of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Superior Council. From 2013 to 2014, he was president of the Iberoamerican Association of Prosecutors.
