Mario Fernández is a Managing Director in the Infrastructure and Energy Group at Macquarie leading the energy principal investment activities in Latin America. He has over 10 years of experience in project development, structuring, and financing. His most recent experience includes successfully leading the restructuring, acquisition, and financing for the Norte Ill CCGT plant in Mexico. In this role, he raised both equity and $700 million+ in project financing from 10 international financial institutions.
Previously, he was the CFO for Trafigura’s $900 million+ Colombia Fluvial Logistics System project. Prior to that, Fernández worked at international financial firms such as ING and XL Capital Assurance (Syncora Guarantee) on structured and project finance activities in the oil and gas, mining, and infrastructure sectors.
Fernández was a management consultant for five years before obtaining his Master’s degree focused on international finance from Columbia University in New York. He completed his undergraduate studies in economics from Boston College.
