On January 12 of 2017, Luis G. Rivera-Marín, was confirmed by the Puerto Rico Legislative Assembly to serve as Puerto Rico’s 25th Secretary of State and Lieutenant Governor.

Secretary Rivera-Marín is an at large member of all the Government Councils within the Executive Branch. Likewise, in coordination with the US Department of State, Secretary Rivera-Marín is Puerto Rico’s official representative in matters of Foreign and Consular Affairs of the US territory.

Prior to his current post, from January of 2009 to December 2012, Secretary Rivera-Marín served as Secretary of the Puerto Rico’s Department of Consumer Affairs where he supervised 200 employees.

From March to December of 2012, aside from his role on behalf of consumers, Secretary Rivera-Marín served as the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, where he managed a staff of roughly 6,000 employees. During this four-year tenure, the Secretary served on several Government Boards, such as the Hotel Development Corporation, the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, the Puerto Rico Economic Development Bank, the Tourism Development Fund, the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, and the Corporation for Automobile Accident Compensation.

As a private sector attorney for well over two decades, before assuming public office, Rivera-Marín was a commercial litigator and business advisor to several local and international companies.
