José Varela is vice president of Latin America Corporate Affairs & Governance at 3M and managing director of 3M Mexico. He previously served as global vice president of purchasing, as well as vice president for occupational safety, a position from which he led 3M’s acquisition of Capital Safety. He also served as the company’s country president in Panama, Chile and Brazil, among other positions in the areas of sales, finance, operational planning and supply chain management.
As part of his commitment to society, Varela is a founding member and secretary of the board of Junior Achievement Panama, a founding member and vice president of the United Chile Fund Council, a member of the board and chairman of the Trade Committee of AmCham Chile, a member of the board of Fondo Unido Brasil, a board member of AMCHAM Campiñas-Brasil, a board member of MEDA Minnesota, and chairman of the Retroactive Council of El Salvador.
