Jean Gough has served as regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) since November 2020. Currently, she is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and orientation of 36 countries and territories in the region. Gough also represents UNICEF to governments, donors, the private sector, and civil society in the region.
With more than 28 years of service to UNICEF, Gough has extensive experience in program management, emergency response, systems strengthening, resource mobilization, and partnerships. Prior to her current assignment, she was the regional director of UNICEF for South Asia, based in Kathmandu.
She has served in various management positions in UNICEF, including representative in Nigeria, coordinating the management of 10 local offices, covering 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory. Gough was special representative to the State of Palestine, as well as deputy regional director for the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, and representative in Barbados and Eastern Caribbean.
Gough is an engineer by profession. She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in water resources management from Arizona State University.
