Isabel Román is the research coordinator for the State of Education Report in Costa Rica. In addition, she is a specialist in public policies for social development of the State of the Nation Program, which operates under the institutional framework of the National Council of Rectors of Costa Rica. For several years, she coordinated the State of the Nation Report on sustainable human development in Costa Rica and has been a researcher for the State of the Region Report in Central America. The author and co-author of several books and articles in national and international magazines, Román has been a consultant to international organizations, including ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America), the Population Fund and UNICEF of the United Nations Program, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO).

Román has a master’s degree in sociology from the Central American Master’s Program in Sociology at the Universidad de Costa Rica. She is a professor at the Universidad Nacional, specializing in public policies for social development from the Instituto Nacional de Administración Pública (INAP) of Spain.

Román was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
