Eduardo Engel is a professor of economics at the University of Chile and President of Espacio Público, a Chilean think tank. He held the position of full professor of economics at Yale University from 2001 to 2012 and was President of the Latin American and Caribbean Economics Association (LACEA) during 2014 and 2015.

Engel has published extensively in the areas of macroeconomics, public finance, regulation, and infrastructure economics. He was awarded the Frisch Medal by the Econometric Society in 200, for his joint work with Ricardo Caballero on investment dynamics. His most recent book, co-authored with Ronald Fischer and Alexander Galetovic, is “The Economics of Public-Private Partnerships: A Basic Guide” and was published by Cambridge University Press in 2014.

He chaired the Presidential Advisory Council on Conflicts of Interest, Influence Peddling, and Corruption – also known as the Engel Commission – in 2015. Working from Espacio Público he has contributed to promoting the reform agenda that followed the report, receiving various awards for this work.

Engel holds an engineering degree from the University of Chile, a Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT.
