Edgar Villanueva

Edgar Villanueva is the co-executive director of the U.S. – Guatemala Business Council. He is responsible for the Council’s management and initiatives. He is also a part of its Board of Directors.  

Before joining the Council, Villanueva was an advisor to the Guatemalan Minister of Labor and Minister of Government on international and legal affairs. Prior to that, he was a member of the diplomatic service, where he last served as the deputy chief of Mission of the Guatemalan Embassy in the United States until 2016. In that position, he was also in charge of Congressional relations and help build bipartisan support for issues related to Guatemala. In 2011, he was awarded the Monja Blanca Decoration from the Guatemalan Ministry of Defense, for his commitment to the strengthening of the relation between his country and the United States. 

Before his diplomatic post, Villanueva worked for Guatemala based law firms on local and international corporate affairs. 

He holds a law degree from Francisco Marroquín University and an LLM from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC. He speaks Spanish and English.
