ONLINE EVENT: Unlocking Climate Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean

Event Summary This event has passed.

A challenging global macroeconomic environment, slow post-Covid-19 recovery, and significantly tight fiscal space constrain Latin America and the Caribbean’s ability to tackle the climate crisis, an effort that is estimated to cost between 7 and 19 percent of the region’s annual GDP. While public spending alone will not be enough to finance climate goals, reduced investor appetite for risk, depreciated currencies, and higher interest rates have also slowed down and increased the cost of capital flows to emerging markets.

In this context, the Inter-American Dialogue and Deloitte Consulting will convene regional and climate finance experts to discuss innovative tools to close the climate finance gap and prepare for a climate-resilient future. Experts will explore financing solutions to trigger public-private partnerships, technical assistance, climate debt relief schemes, and reformed lending practices from multilateral development banks and international financial institutions. Panelists will also discuss the ways in which governments can take advantage of the innovative financing tools that are increasingly available by fostering enabling environments and building technical and administrative capacities to execute plans benefitting the most vulnerable communities.

We invite participants to submit questions through the Q&A function in Zoom or by emailing meetings@thedialogue.org.
