ONLINE EVENT: Beleaguered Brazil
The recent resignation of Justice Minister Sergio Moro, coupled with his explosive allegations against President Jair Bolsonaro, shook up Brazilian politics even as the Bolsonaro administration struggles to address the Covid-19 pandemic and a historic economic contraction. While impeachment talk is again in the air in Brasilia, Bolsonaro remains the country’s dominant political figure with a loyal and often combative base of support.
How serious are Moro’s accusations and what might be the consequences for President Bolsonaro? How firm is Bolsonaro’s support and who are his principal adversaries? And how will the current political turbulence impact Brazil’s response to the pandemic and efforts to limit the economic damage?
