This coming March 20, the Organization of American States (OAS) will select a new Secretary General to serve a five year term among three declared candidates. In the first of a series of conversations with the candidates, the Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to welcome María Fernanda Espinosa for a conversation about her background, views on the hemisphere, and vision for the OAS.
Espinosa formerly served as President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly from 2018 to 2019. She has held positions within the Government of Ecuador that include Minister of Foreign Affairs (2017-2018), Minister of Defense (2012-2014), and Minister of Heritage (2009-2012).
Espinosa will engage in a wide-ranging exchange with participants.
