Starting on March 15, 2018, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will hold a part-time, five-week course for those interested in learning about foreign investment within the context of national economic development, and its lessons for Latin America.
Click here to enroll and learn more about the course. The course begins by reviewing the basic concepts behind foreign investment, its relationship to economic development, and its consequences for both borrower and creditor. The course then explores the different elements that compose a country’s investment policy and the current international legal framework. Instruction will also cover the key differences between existing dispute settlement mechanisms. It ends by highlighting a series of “best cases” to illustrate how Latin American and Caribbean countries can effectively benefit from foreign investment.
