A Conversation with Iván Duque Márquez

Event Summary This event has passed.

On May 27th, Colombia will vote in the first round of one of its most consequential presidential elections in years. A great deal is at stake: how will the next government jump start economic growth, advance the country’s social agenda, address widespread concerns about corruption, and implement the peace accord with the FARC? Will the next government be able to reduce polarization? What is the outlook for US-Colombian relations? How will the next government deal with the deepening crisis in Venezuela?

With just over two months before the crucial vote, the Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to host presidential candidate Iván Duque for a wide-ranging and open conversation on these and other questions. Senator Duque, representing the Democratic Center party, leads the main conservative coalition and consistently polls as one of the strongest candidates. He has had an impressive career, including a stint at the Inter-American Development Bank, and he holds masters degrees in public management from Georgetown University and international legal studies from American University.
