On Sunday, May 20, PREAL launched its second study tour of the year, bringing 11 young education policy leaders from six countries in Latin America to investigate education practices in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
The program included a series of field trips and workshops designed to highlight initiatives that have shown promise in raising student learning in disadvantaged settings.
The objective of the study tour was to expose participants to innovations they would otherwise be unlikely to encounter, provide them with opportunities to evaluate education efforts in disadvantaged communities, and encourage them to apply lessons learned in their own countries.
Throughout the course of the week, participants visited 12 separate organizations practicing innovative education strategies, including charter schools and teacher training programs. They also heard from experts at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education on subjects ranging from school leadership to student assessments.
