From Education for All to Learning for All

“We must transform our call to action from Education for All to Learning for All,” said World Bank Education Director Elizabeth King in a speech last month at the Education World Forum in London. King’s speech provided a preview of the Bank’s forthcoming education strategy, which will guide its work for the next decade.

The new strategy will emphasize the key role that education plays in economic growth and social advance. It will recommend that countries make systemic reforms in their education systems rather than just investing more money. And it will urge going beyond getting more children into school to making sure they acquire the skills they need for successful citizenship. “Quality needs to be the focus of education investments, with learning gains as the key metric of quality,” King said in her speech.
