All people are born with enormous potential, but not everyone has the chance to fully develop their potential. Evidence shows that schools--where teachers are key actors--can make an important impact in the life of each student. The Latin American Coalition for Teaching Excellence aims to bolster teacher professionalization so that all children have access to the support and guidance of an excellent teacher.

To reach this objective, we have brought together a wide variety of stakeholders (civil society representatives, government officials, ministers and ex-ministers of education, teachers and multilaterals, among others) from twelve Latin American countries, all of who are actively involved in the education debate. The Regional Agenda that we propose is based on four dimensions in which we believe it is necessary to act in order to ensure teaching excellence:

  • Initial teacher education
  • School leadership
  • Continuing professional development
  • Working conditions

The following document, a product of the first meeting of the Latin American Coalition for Teaching Excellence in February 2019, lays out the Coalition's vision for each dimension, the necessary conditions to achieve that vision and challenges that remain.
