A Conversation with Luis Castañeda Lossio, Mayor of Lima
Lima is a problematic city, but it has its charm. Its charm is in being problematic.
Claudia López, mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, was selected as the next president of Metropolis, an organization focused on connecting leaders from metropolitan areas from around the world in order to share knowledge and collaborate on common problems. López assumed the role on July 14th, 2022, at a convocation in Bogotá, making her the first female president of the organization. Thanking Metropolis for her designation as president, López wrote that this "is a historic opportunity to build a future of care for people and for the environment, inclusion, and sustainability."
Just one day prior, López was also selected as president of the Congreso del Centro Iberoamericano de Desarrollo Estratégico Urbano (Cideu), a similar regional network connecting 38 municipal governments throughout Latin America.
López has been the mayor of Bogotá since 2020 and has participated in a number of initiatives connecting municipalities throughout the Americas and throughout the world, including the Mayors Summit, hosted by the Inter-American Dialogue and CAF at the Ninth Summit of the Americas, which brought mayors from across the hemisphere together to discuss how their cities have addressed shared concerns regarding migration and climate change.
Claudia López is a Member of the Inter-American Dialogue.
Lima is a problematic city, but it has its charm. Its charm is in being problematic.
