Chinese Mining Activity in Latin America
China has rapidly emerged as the world’s leading consumer and importer of minerals.
On May 24, Michael Shifter, president of the Inter-American Dialogue, participated in a seminar organized by Philip C. French from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
During the seminar, Shifter presented on the state of domestic and foreign political affairs in the United States. Special emphasis was placed on the relationship between the United States and Latin America and what to expect from the new Biden administration. The role of China in the Americas, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and climate diplomacy were among the topics that were also discussed during the session.
