On September 9, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted a virtual event “20 Years of the Democratic Charter in the Americas”. The panel discussed the current state of the Democratic Charter 20 years after its signature.
On August 31st, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue supported the press conference “Latin American Press Under Siege,” organized by Fundamedios. The event focused on the worsening persecution of journalists across Latin America and called for the immediate release of detained journalists in Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba.
On August 26, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Corporate Program hosted “ESG Investment Trends in Latin America and the Caribbean,” an online event. Three speakers led the discussion: Andrea Bonime-Blanc, CEO of GEC Risk Advisory; María José Cortés, the head of ESG at Atlas Renewable Energy; and Ben Ho, vice president of BlackRock Sustainable Investments. Devry Boughner Vorwerk, the CEO of DevryBV Sustainable Strategies and a former corporate vice president at Cargill and Grubhub, moderated the event.

On June 28, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted the online event “Deepening Cooperation on Health Policy in the Americas.” The panel discussed a new report published by the Inter-American Health Task Force, which analyzed the response to Covid-19 in the Western Hemisphere and identified recommendations to improve cooperation and coordination in health policies across the Americas.
On July 8, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted a congressional staff briefing on China’s Covid-19 engagement with Latin America. Panelists discussed developments in Chinese diplomacy in the Latin American region, both before and amid the pandemic.

The effect of the pandemic on teacher wellbeing – Evaluating the impact and preparing for school reopening
On June 17, the Education Program at the Dialogue with the support of the Tinker Foundation hosted the third event of a series which sought to highlight the experiences of Latin America’s teachers during the pandemic and present alternatives to measure the emotional state and wellbeing of teachers.
On July 20, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue partnered with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to examine the arguments of the recent Carnegie working paper Reimagining Regional Governance in Latin America. The panelists discussed the existing challenges for fostering regional cooperation within Latin America as well as how regional cooperation can be reimagined to meet those challenges.
