On December 2, 2020 the Inter-American Dialogue partnered with Luminate to host the webinar “Democracy in a Post-Pandemic Latin America.” Panelists discussed the current state of democratic institutions in the region, the role of disinformation, as well as the findings of Luminate’s new public opinion research on shifting perceptions on democracy during the pandemic.
The Dialogue’s Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program and the Inter-American Development Bank hosted a series of events focused on addressing issues of corruption in the Americas to identify lessons learned from recent corruption cases, analyze continued challenges, and outline the agenda for future reform.

On April 19, the Inter-American Dialogue in partnership with the Open Contracting Partnership hosted an event titled “Open Contracting and Latin America’s Corruption Fight.” This discussion, which was moderated by Michael Camilleri, featured panelists Lea Giménez, Minister of Finance in Paraguay, and George Neumann, Senior Manager at the Open Contracting Partnership. This conversation explored the merits and challenges of open contracting and other public transparency initiatives, focusing on the Paraguayan example in regional context.
