Job Description

The Inter-American Dialogue is recruiting a communications coordinator for an international development project in Guatemala. The communications coordinator will be responsible for carrying out a compelling and comprehensive communications strategy that reaches audiences in both the United States and Guatemala through traditional and new media. This position will involve working closely with Dialogue leadership, DC program staff, Guatemala-based program staff, and Guatemala-based communications firms to ensure the quality of the campaign and to align materials with marking and branding requirements. This position also includes organizing major program events and serving as the point person for media outreach.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Serve as the main media liaison for the project;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key US and Guatemalan press and fulfill media requests;
  • Organize major program events and coordinate public or press participation;
  • Oversee the development and dissemination of media materials, including news releases, official statements, and media advisories;
  • Supervise the design, production, and publication of print and online marketing materials, including banners, brochures, reports, and newsletters;
  • Conduct research, fact checking and proof reading to ensure the quality and accuracy of materials;
  • Plan and implement the project’s Communications Strategy according to needs and opportunities;
  • Ensure that project materials adhere to the organization’s identity standards and marking and branding requirements for US government grants;
  • Provide periodic reporting of media activity;
  • Maintain and update the project’s website;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a communications professional with 3-5 years of experience, excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish, and some experience with Latin America. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with marking and branding requirements for US government grants.
