Thomas Mackell served as chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond from 2005 to 2008. He is currently chair of United Benefits and Pension Services, Inc. and president of the Association of Benefit Administrators. Mackell joined the Dialogue as a member in 2006. In addition to serving on the Dialogue’s Board of Directors, Mackell is a director  of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies and Volunteers of America. He is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Institutional Real Estate and the Council on American Politics at the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management. From 1997 to 1999, Mackell served on the Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans Advisory Council to the US Department of Labor Mackell is the author of When the Good Pensions Go Away: Why America Needs a New Deal for Pension and Health Care Reform. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University, a master’s degree from Long Island University, and a doctorate from Rutgers University.
