Mia Amor Mottely has served as leader of the opposition Barbados Labor Party (BLP) from 2008-2010 and again from 2013 to the present and is a Member of Parliament. She is a Queen’s Counsel, which denotes an attorney-at-law of high and distinguished standing in the British Commonwealth. From 1994 to 2008, she held a succession of ministerial portfolios, including as deputy prime minister, attorney general, minister of home affairs, minister of education, and minister of economic affairs and development. She has served as leader of the House, a member of the National Security Council and of the Barbados Defense Board. Mottley directed the establishment of the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme and a National Youth Development Program.
