Cuban Voices: Paths to the Future

Event Summary This event has passed.

After over 50 years, dual eras are coming to a close in Cuba: prolonged hostility towards the United States and the leadership of the Castro brothers. President Obama’s historic visit is likely to cement recent changes in US policy towards greater engagement and cooperation. On April 16th to the 18th, the Cuban Communist Party will hold its Seventh Congress and legal, institutional, and economic questions will be under discussion, paving the way for Cuba’s next generation of leaders.

At a moment when there is much attention focused on Cuba and its future, voices from the country’s emerging civil society provide an important perspective. The Inter-American Dialogue is delighted to welcome Roberto Veiga, Lenier Gonzalez, Ailynn Torres and Julio Cesar Guanche, representatives of Cuba Posible, a group that encourages debate and discussion among diverse opinion leaders on key issues confronting Cuba.
