Over the past two decades, Colombia has been transformed in significant ways. Yet despite the many advances, high levels of polarization over the peace accord with the FARC rebels, slow economic growth, and concerns over corruption and public management have made the country’s politics complicated and uncertain. Colombia faces considerable development and institutional challenges in the years ahead, many of which span local, departmental, and national government jurisdictions.

The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to welcome Sergio Fajardo, former Governor of Antioquia and Mayor of Medellín, who will share his perspective on Colombia’s many challenges, especially in the context of the upcoming 2018 presidential elections. His remarks will be followed by an open, wide-ranging exchange with participants.
