Job Description

The Inter-American Dialogue seeks a field coordinator for a financial education project in Guatemala. This project, which is focused on Guatemala City and the Western Highlands, aims to bring remittance recipients into the formal financial system through financial education and assistance in opening their first bank account. The project will provide one-on-one financial counseling related to budgeting, saving, credit, and insurance that empowers participants to take a more active role in managing their finances and planning for the future.

The field coordinator will manage all on-the-ground operations while also maintaining close contact with the Dialogue’s DC-based office. Responsibilities will include coordinating the work of 30 financial educators, assisting with orientation and training sessions, liaising with local financial institutions, and providing ongoing supervision and monitoring of the financial educators to ensure that project goals are met. The field coordinator is also responsible for working through any opportunities or issues that may arise to find satisfactory solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management (60%)

  • Oversee team of 30 financial educators to ensure that project goals are met
  • Regularly visit project sites to observe progress, document successes, and respond to any issues
  • Maintain and build relationships with partner institutions in the financial sector, both at their headquarters and at their local branches
  • Maintain excellent records of program progress using an Excel database
  • Provide assistance with drafting program reports and updates
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from the program director, donor, and partner institutions

Training (40%)

  • Work closely with the program director to organize orientation sessions for financial educators
  • Work closely with team of financial educators to ensure that they are using the most effective strategies for client outreach; provide ongoing or corrective coaching as needed
  • Provide trainings for financial institution staff on topics such as remittances and financial inclusion
  • Coach financial educators on how to properly maintain records in Excel
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in project management, excellent interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to financial inclusion. Since project monitoring is done in Excel, the candidate should be comfortable using Excel and cleaning data. Proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
