Racial inequalities in Brazilian education

˙ PREAL Blog

We are pleased to share with you Education Synopsis number 14, which summarizes the key conclusions and recommendations of the special report A Dialetica do Bom Aluno, published by PREAL and the Gertulio Vargas Foundation.

The report finds that in spite of the expansion of schooling in Brazil over the past 30 years, racial inequality persists in various aspects of the education system. It concludes that, in order to promote equity in the Brazilian education system, the country should prepare its instructors to teach in a multicultural context, take note of the alternative pedagogical practices that promote diversity, and duly implement the law that introduces African history and the importance of Afican-descendants in Brazilian society, among other important policies.
